HUNTING IN CONGO

The hunting area is about 200000 hectares big, situated in the Northern part of the country, about 2h30 drive from Ouesso. It is a rain forest with rolling hills. The roads set up by the sawmill are used to get into the forest which is about 150 km. The camp is located on the bank of the Ngoko River. It is composed of a large mess and 4 very comfortable en-suite chalets with air conditioning. The wifi access is free for guests.

The main target on the forest hunt is the bongo. We hunt them by tracking with the baka pygmies and their dogs. Their skill in tracking animals in the deep rain forest is just amazing. The dogs bay the bongo which gives you time to get close to it, check it and shoot it. A pretty exciting way of hunting. On this kind of hunt, you can add some duikers. We hunt them by calling. Once again the Baka pygmies are very good at it. The shooting skill of the hunter makes the difference between a successful or unsuccessful result…

Buffaloes are hunted by tracking or from a high stand overlooking a salt lick or a baï. They are the most difficult to get, the success rate is very low. Sitatungas are hunted from high stand. The success rate is pretty high.

Hunting day schedule:
Wake up at 4H30, breakfast. Departure 5H30. Back at midday for lunch. Hunting in the afternoon.

For the entry in Congo:
You have to fly to Brazzaville. You need a visa (we provide the documentation to apply for it). You need a yellow fever certificate. You need a PCR test and proof of vaccination for COVID 19.

You can’t import any weapon (hunters use the camp weapons).

The transfer from Brazzaville to the hunting area is done by domestic flight (Brazzaville/Ouesso), 1h45 and drive from Ouesso to the camp 2H30. It is also done by car (AC 4X4) when the domestic flight does not work. It takes between 12 and 14 hours drive (975 km).
